説明

On March 25, 2021 at approximately 4:14 p.m. Officer Jimmy Harmon with the Lamar Police Department, advised that a white Ford pickup pulling a trailer was stolen in the City of Lamar. Officer Harmon stated the truck had nearly hit him head on, and that he had lost sight of it due to property falling out of the trailer in front of him. I proceeded to the 58 mile marker of I-40 westbound and attempted to locate it. Johnson County Dispatch advised that the victim had called 911 and stated that there were several loaded guns in the vehicle at the time it was taken. At approximately 4:22 p.m. I observed a white Ford truck pulling a trailer, passing westbound. As I caught up to it I observed that this was the vehicle that was just reported stolen. I attempted to make a traffic stop near the 57 mile marker. The driver refused to pull over, and I advised dispatch of a pursuit.
A Johnson County unit took lead initially for a few miles before passing the vehicle and getting a few hundred feet ahead. Clarksville P.D. attempted to spike the vehicle near the 55 mile marker but it was unsuccessful. The pursuit continued westbound at speeds mostly around 70 miles an hour. Traffic was light and the roadway was wet due to a recent rain. At times it appeared that the suspect had attempted to shake the contents of the trailer out during the pursuit. Johnson County Dispatch advised that they had a Coal Hill P.D. unit set up near the 47 mile marker with spike strips set up. As we approached the 47 mile marker, the suspect swerved into the fast lane to avoid the spikes.
Coal Hill successfully spiked the front driver side tire. The suspect's swerving caused the trailer to lose some of its cargo. The suspect continued for approximately 2 more miles before the vehicle lost its tire and the driver pulled to the north shoulder. The suspect then attempted to flee on foot before I was able to tackle her near the passenger side of my unit. She was taken into custody without further issues. Located in the front driver seat was a loaded revolver. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and state that he would come to the scene and take possession of the truck and trailer. The suspect was later identified as Deidra Lewis of Lamar, and was transported to the Johnson County Detention Center. Lamar P.D. is filing charges for the theft of the vehicle and trailer, and I will be filing charges for the felony fleeing, reckless driving, and refusal to submit to arrest.
