News Description:

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Dashcam video from a police cruiser shows a pursuit through Columbus that lasted for several minutes on Tuesday evening. Police were attempting to stop two suspects allegedly involved in an armed robbery in the Hilltop neighborhood.

Jolan Rutherford, 21, and Ondae Sullivan, 21, were arrested following the pursuit. Rutherford is charged with tampering with evidence and Sullivan is charged with failure to comply, tampering with evidence and speed.

The Columbus Division of Police said two officers were injured during the incident.

Before the pursuit began, officers were flagged down in the area of Sullivant and Ogden avenues in southwest Columbus by someone who said he was robbed at gunpoint. The victim provided police with a description of the suspects and the vehicle they were in.

Officers later found the suspect vehicle at East Livingston Avenue and Alum Creek Drive in southeast Columbus and attempted to stop it. Police said the suspects inside the vehicle ignored commands and signals to stop and a pursuit began.

During the chase, the police cruiser in the lead is seen on dashcam footage crashing into a fence and tree after turning left onto a road. The cruiser right behind then takes the lead and attempts a PIT maneuver on the car. Another cruiser can also be seen trying to stop the car using the maneuver later on.

At one point, a tire is seen coming off the suspect vehicle and rolling down the roadway.

The suspect vehicle then goes over a curb and crashes into a building on Alum Creek Drive. In the dashcam video, two men can be seen taking off from the car in opposite directions.

A cruiser is seen hitting one of the men and crashing into the same building. Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #9 President Brian Steel said the airbag deployed, causing the officer's weapon to accidentally go off.

Both suspects were taken into custody and treated by medics.

Police said a firearm was recovered at the scene.
