Hamirpur district, Himachal Pradesh, India - August 8, 2025

The incident occurred in the Siddha Siddha Peeth Baba Balak Nath Temple, Hamirpur district, Himachal Pradesh, northern India, on August 8. The visuals from the spot show heavy rocks and mud cascading down a hillside onto the temple premises, as people rush to clear the area and seek safety.   According to reports, the incident occurred early Friday morning, near the revered Baba Balak Nath Temple, a prominent Siddhapeeth in North India, causing panic among devotees and locals after massive boulders and debris crashed onto the temple road. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the incident occurred at around 6:00 am, a time when the area was deserted. According to officials, the landslide took place between Gate No. 5 and Bakra Sthal on the road leading to the temple in Deotsidh, Hamirpur district. This stretch is usually bustling with devotees, shopkeepers, and security personnel, but was empty when the hill slope gave way. Witnesses say that if the road had been crowded, the consequences could have been devastating. Following the incident, the temple trust administration immediately sealed off the affected road and deployed security personnel to prevent devotees from passing through. “The road will remain closed until it is completely cleared of debris and declared safe,” officials said. Local authorities, including SDM Barsar and Trust Chairman Rajendra Gautam, along with Tehsildar and Temple Officer Sandeep Chandel, inspected the site soon after the landslide. They confirmed that debris removal work had already begun and would be completed as soon as possible to restore access. The Baba Balak Nath Temple, renowned for attracting large numbers of pilgrims throughout the year, has experienced occasional landslides in the past due to its hillside location. Officials have urged caution and advised devotees to follow all safety instructions while visiting the shrine in the coming days.
