説明

A loved-up lad caught on camera the moment his $1,000 proposal plan went painfully wrong when he trapped his finger in the car boot - popping the question in the back of an AMBULANCE instead.

Alec Wright had planned to capture memorable footage of him asking Angel Griffin to be his wife surrounded by flowers and candles last month [Dec 23].

Instead it shows the wince-inducing moment the nervous 22-year-old traps his left hand's little finger in the car boot with an audible 'crunch' - leaving him reeling in pain and dripping with blood.

The solar power firm owner says he quickly realised 'everything was ruined', but after calling an ambulance his mum, the medics and his paid-for helpers changed his mind.

A second clip, shot by Alec's mum, shows worried Angel, 23, arrive to find Alec in the back of the ambulance where he's waiting with flowers and a ring.

Angel asks 'why do you have flowers?' before her blood-covered partner invites her into the emergency vehicle and reassures her that he's okay.

Medics watch on as tearful Alec says 'I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I had this whole thing planned. Will you spend the rest of your life with me?'.

She replies with a certain-sounding 'yeah', puts on the $1,000 (£780) ring and then hugs Alec while he sits on a stretcher with a blood-pressure armband and a finger bandage on.

Alec, who had eight stitches, has admitted he was disappointed his $1,000 plans didn't come off but he's happy the pair have a unique story to tell.

Angel says she was 'taken back' by the amount of blood on Alec during the proposal but insists his resilience proves how much he loves her.

The video of the proposal has been viewed more than 4.5 million times with users calling the bizarre moment 'even more adorable' than Alec's original plan.

Alec, from Dallas, Texas, US, said: "I think the whole thing is crazy but it worked. It's a great story we'll be able to tell.

"Angel thought my proposal was going to be super extravagant and it kind of was.

"The day went pretty much perfectly but when I was pulling stuff out of the car to help set the videographer up I shut the trunk and left my hand where it was moving.

"It was pretty painful and definitely not what I was expecting. I wanted to go ahead with [the proposal] anyway but then I thought I couldn't do it and everything was ruined.

"Everyone convinced me to do it because it would be a great story, so even though I was still in shock I did it.

"My tears were a mix of both disappointment that things didn't go to plan and pain."

Alec had arranged for estate agent Angel to go shopping with a pal so he could set everything up secretly.

He'd paid around $650 (£470) for a photographer and videographer to capture the moment and even paid someone $300 (£235) to arrange the flowers and candles in Highland Park, Dallas.

Angel said: "When I got to the ambulance my first thought was 'is he okay?' but then I noticed the flowers and I was confused.

"When he opened the box with the ring I hesitated because I was noticing that there was a lot of blood on him.

"It was on his face, his top, his pants, his shoes, everywhere.

"I realised he really was hurt and he really was proposing at the same time. I was flabbergasted and It took me back.

"I felt really bad but at the same time it showed how much he loved me and how much he wanted to go through with it

"It's so us. We never go out without a bang. There's always something.

"In the hospital he showed me pictures of what [the planned proposal] was going to look like and I thought it was beautiful but at the same time I was just happy I was engaged to him so I wasn't mad.

"I know our wedding is going to be beautiful, so I was more worried about him.

"Because it was so crazy I just thought I'd share it with everybody."

The pair, who have been together for two years, have set a date for their wedding in May 2025.

Angel's TikTok of her proposal has been liked more than half a million times and earned almost 2,000 comments.

One commented: "OH MY GOD, poor guy! I'm glad you still got such a sweet proposal!"

A second said: "This makes me so sad for him. He was so excited but I actually think it makes an amazing story to tell your grandkids."

A third added: "The fact that he is crying more than she is just shows how much he loves her."

A fourth said: "This is even more adorable than a planned proposal!"
