The Nagatani Village used to have around 12 families and 70 people living deep in the mountain in Ohi District, Fukui prefecture, Japan. According to a book about the village, there was a plan to make a dam in 1966 and people living in this area with beautiful nature had to leave the village. There were some people who were against the plan and decided to remain the village, however, villagers left there one by one and last person in the village finally left there more than 20 years ago and the village became abandoned. After that, buildings including a shrine and temple were ruined badly. What made this village’s history more sad is that the dam plan was canceled. So the village didn’t has to become abandoned!! I was there for photo shooting with the last person and he said he never thought he would live outside of the village.
