This is the moment a father and daughter playing badminton in their residential compound are left stunned when a shuttlecock appears to freeze in mid-air, hanging above them for nearly half a minute.
The unusual scene was filmed in a neighbourhood in Changchun, in China's Jilin Province, with the clip later surfacing online on 25th August.
The footage begins with the father and daughter rallying together in the courtyard. After one of her shots, the shuttlecock drifts upwards and then astonishingly remains suspended in the same spot.
The girl laughs in disbelief, hopping from foot to foot as she stares up at the object, waiting for it to fall.
Her father glances skyward too, echoing her confusion as he asks aloud (in Chinese): "What is happening?"
For several long seconds nothing moves. The shuttlecock stays fixed above their heads as though held in place by an invisible force.
The daughter replies: "I don’t know," not taking her eyes off it.
The extraordinary moment continues until the father finally taps at it with his racquet, sending it back down.
Later, he suggested it had probably become caught in a spider’s web stretched high across the courtyard.
Online, however, viewers on Douyin – the Chinese version of TikTok – have been busy swapping theories, with some amused by the girl’s wide-eyed reaction and others joking that the clip looked like a scene from a sci-fi film.
The video continues to rack up views, with many still marvelling at the 30-second hover that left both father and daughter speechless.
