These shocking images show tourists being injured after a massive column of icicles broke off a waterfall and fell 300 feet, landing on top of them.
The incident took place at the Heishancha Ice Waterfall, a "celebrity check-in spot" on Qinling Mountain near Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, in China, on 4th January.
The footage shows the moment massive icicles break off the frozen waterfall and smash down the side of a cliff before hitting a large pile of ice and frozen snow at the bottom while ricocheting and shattering into a group of tourists standing nearby.
Many of the tourists are knocked off their feet, with at least one apparently lying motionless as people begin to scream as the footage ends.
At least one person was injured and taken to hospital with a fractured pelvis. They were later transferred to a different hospital to be treated by orthopaedic specialists.
The second piece of footage shows tourists at the scene admiring the landscape, with local reports saying that the Heishancha Ice Waterfall has a 100-metre (330-foot) drop.
Staff from the Forest Tourism Scenic Area Management Bureau of Xianyang District told local media on 5th January that the Heishancha Icefall has been closed and the site of the accident was an undeveloped area of a "wild scenic area."
Some citizens ignored previous safety warnings, and the recent rise in temperatures caused the ice waterfall to melt, leading to the incident.
The iconic tourist hotspot is popular in the winter after the waterfall freezes, with visitors hiking to the beauty spot to admire the icicles.
