説明

This is the viral footage of a train driver who apparently stopped his locomotive on a level crossing so he could nip to a nearby shop for some snacks.

The incident was filmed at the Parungkuda railway station in the city of Sukabumi in the south-western Indonesian province of West Java and was later shared on Twitter by netizen ‘Chamberafli’ where it has gone viral with 2 million views.

The video was shared with the message: “Using a locomotive to buy snacks.”

In the footage, the locomotive driver appears to stare at the ground as he hurries past a row of waiting vehicles with a shopping bag in his hand.

He then climbs into the train cab, ready to set off again.

Reports said that the state-owned train operator PT KAI issued a press release and social media statement assuring residents that the train was making a scheduled stop.

Spokesperson Edy Kuswoyo said: “It is not true that the crossing gate was closed while the train engineer went to buy food.”

Kuswoyo said that the train, serving the Sukabumi-Bogor route, stopped at the Parungkuda Station as normal, however the short platforms mean that trains often protrude onto the level crossing.
