This footage shows the ground exploding beneath a mum-of-three and her kids after one of her daughters allegedly dropped a banger down a septic tank.
The freak accident happened in the gated community where the family lives, and where the mother and her three children were playing in the morning on 28th January.
In the footage from Kaijiang County, in south-western China’s Sichuan Province, one of the girls can be seen bending down before allegedly dropping a banger into a hole in the ground.
The live firework landed in an underground septic tank below the courtyard, with the video showing the concrete erupting and engulfing the family in a cloud of smoke and rubble.
The family, who were momentarily launched into the air during the blast, are seen injured on the ground in the aftermath, footage shows.
Zeng Shuguang, with the Kaijiang Public Security Bureau, has confirmed that the incident left the family of four injured, with one of the children said to be in serious condition.
The authorities said initial investigations showed that the explosion was caused when the girl dropped the banger underground, igniting biogas such as methane in the septic tank below.
Further investigations are ongoing.
