This is the moment a little girl runs into the middle of a busy road and hits the side of a lorry that swerves to avoid her before narrowly avoiding being run over by a passing car.
The heart-stopping incident was captured by a traffic camera in Fuchuan Yao Autonomous County in China’s southern Guangxi region on 9th May.
The CCTV images show the girl and her mum preparing to cross the thoroughfare when the tot - reportedly between two to three years old - suddenly dashes into traffic away from her parent.
A lorry driver spots the child and tries to swerve away, but the girl slams into the side of the vehicle and falls to the ground.
A passing car then narrowly avoids running over her head as her shocked mum rushes forwards to check on her.
County traffic policeman Liu Neng said the child avoided a serious crush injury to her head by just 10 centimetres (4 inches).
She was taken to a county hospital for treatment and found to have suffered soft-tissue injuries, but she fortunately did not sustain any broken bones.
Mr Liu said she was in stable condition and remains in recovery as an investigation into the matter continues.
Local media reports said the girl ‘cheated death’, but have suggested the mother would be held liable for failing to supervise her child.
