This is the dramatic moment the crew of a cargo vessel leap into a river when a tank of chemicals suddenly catches fire and explodes.
Authorities in the city of Tongling, in Anhui Province in East China, later confirmed that two crew members suffered burn injuries during the accident on 19th May.
Tanker ‘Qiu Feng 6’ was travelling down the Yangtze River carrying bulk chemicals when its No 2 cargo hold ruptured during a blast caught on CCTV, the city’s maritime office said.
The footage shows flames spewing out of the ship’s deck as four crew members turn and run, jumping into the river as the cargo hold explodes and a fireball emerges.
Officials said two of the four crew suffered non-life-threatening burn injuries and were retrieved by members of the local coastguard.
The incident did not trigger a fire onboard, but the vessel was evacuated shortly after the blast.
Qiu Feng 6 is a 95-metre (311-foot) long, 16-metre (53-foot) wide tanker registered to Yangzhou Yuhua Shipping Co Ltd.
It has a capacity of 4,456 tonnes.
The cause of the accident was still being investigated at the time of writing, officials reported.
