This is the moment a mother snatches up her toddler and runs to safety as a car spins out of control and hurtles towards them following a crash at a road junction.
The incident took place at a road intersection in the city of Zhangye, Gansu province, China, on 16th March.
CCTV footage shows a woman walking with a small child at the side of the junction towards a shop when a black car turning left collides with a white van travelling straight through the intersection.
The impact sends the black car into a spin, with the vehicle swerving uncontrollably towards the roadside where the mother and child were walking.
As the car skids towards them, the mother reacts instantly, grabbing the toddler and sprinting away from the vehicle’s path.
During the escape, she briefly stumbles but manages to keep hold of the child and reach safety moments before the car reaches the spot where they had been standing.
According to the child’s father, identified as Mr Zhao, the incident happened outside their shop while his wife was with their one-and-a-half-year-old son.
He said he was not present at the time and was alerted by a phone call from his wife, who told him there had been a crash outside and that emergency services had arrived.
After reviewing the surveillance footage, he realised how close his wife and son had come to being struck, adding that both escaped without injury.
Footage also shows debris being thrown from the vehicles on impact, including items from the car’s boot, which burst open during the collision.
Emergency responders, including firefighters and paramedics, arrived at the scene shortly after the crash, and injured people were taken to hospital for treatment.
Traffic police attended the scene to handle the incident and the damaged vehicles were later removed.
