An officer drives a doorless police car on the road in Durban North, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
This footage shows a police officer driving a marked patrol vehicle with no driver’s door, sparking widespread concern and an internal investigation.
The incident took place in the Durban North policing precinct, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, after the vehicle was involved in a collision with a minibus taxi on Sunday, 1st June.
After the crash, the door had to be removed to free a female Warrant Officer who was trapped inside the vehicle.
But rather than abandoning the vehicle, the officer decided to drive it back to the station with the door gone.
Witnesses filmed as the cop travelled at speed with the giant hole on the right side of the car.
Colonel Robert Netshiunda, spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS), explained: "Instead of following prescribed procedures, another driver, also a Warrant Officer, drove the vehicle to the station, endangering his life and putting the name and the image of the South African Police Service into disrepute."
KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi added: "The member who was driving the vehicle, the officer who gave such an unlawful instruction, and anyone else involved in the decision will be subjected to internal disciplinary processes."
