This is the moment a quick-thinking woman unleashes the family pit bull on criminals who were trying to steal her husband's taxi.
The incident took place in the East Zone of Sao Paulo, in Brazil, at around 8:30 pm on the evening of Friday, 15th November.
The footage shows the crooks approaching the taxi just as the family had got back from the shops and were preparing to unload the car.
The woman heads over to the gate to the family home just as the crooks begin to try to steal the car, trying to get the keys off the husband.
He refused to hand over the keys because there was a young child strapped into a car seat in the back of the car.
Realising what is going on, the woman returns with the family pit bull on a lead and she unleashes the hound on the hapless carjackers, who promptly flee the scene as it starts barking at them and chasing them.
The police said that they had been fighting robberies in the area and that there were less this year than last year, saying: "The SSP continues to monitor crime indicators in the region of the 10th DP (Penha) and has focused on actions to combat property crimes and identify receivers, who feed the illicit chain behind these crimes. As a result, the 10th DP recorded a 14.8 per cent drop in robberies, from January to September of this year, compared to the same period in 2023."
But a local councillor named as Suzana Alves told local media: "We are afraid 24 hours a day. There are no more set times. There have been robberies here at four in the afternoon.
"We think about leaving here, but we need to figure out where to go, what to do with the apartment... it's not easy."
It is unclear if the police are investigating the attempted carjaking.
