This is the weird nature moment two fishermen find a huge mother whale placenta floating in the sea.
The fishermen were on their boat off Santa Catarina Island on Brazil's South Atlantic coast on 19th July when they came across the floating organ.
Video footage shows the palcenta, measuring about 16 feet, floating on the surface before the deep-sea fishermen begin to pull it aboard for a closer look.
Marine biologist Dani Abras later explained that in the final stages of pregnancy, a mum whale's placenta can reach over five metres long.
Just like a human pregnancy, the placenta connects a mother to her foetus, providing oxygen and nutrients.
The placenta detaches after the baby whale is fully born and then floats to the surface, where it enters the ocean food chain.
Unlike ambergris, whale vomit, placentas have no commercial value, although scientists are experimenting on using them as a natural pollution filter for the seas.
The expert said: "Since whales give birth tail-first, to prevent their calves from drowning, the placenta only comes out after the calf is born."
Finding a whale placenta is a rare event, with instances recorded in Hawaii, in Australia and in Brazil, among others.
Abras said the placenta could have come from a right whale (Eubalaena) or a humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae).
