This is the moment a wild crocodile swims shockingly close to several tourists who were unfazed by its presence.
The footage was shared by netizen ‘Sebitastrip’ for his army of 49,500 Instagram followers while he was visiting a natural pit in the town of Tulum in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo earlier this month (January).
The video shows the Morelet's crocodile (Crocodylus moreletii), also known as a Mexican crocodile, swimming under a woman and young boy before getting very close to them.
The reptile calmly moves in the water as other tourists confidently swim around the wild animal.
At one point, the netizen says “here is Panchito” and even manages to get close to it while it sunbathes on a rock.
The caption to the video explained that the wild crocodile has lived in the area most of its life and is considered harmless by locals as it is accustomed to being surrounded by people.
The message added: “I wanted to show you how close we are interacting with nature as tourists and it is important for us to understand that we are the ones invading their space so we should realise that we need to be more responsible because of the impact we have as tourists.”
