This is the one pupmanship moment a woman catches a pet pooch as it plunges from an apartment balcony just inches before it hits the ground.
The helpless pup was left dangling from the ledge by its harness and lead after its owner left it tethered on the balcony in Planaltina, central Brazil, while they were sleeping.
Nail-biting video footage shows the dog swinging by its harness as it dangles over a sheer drop onto the pavement.
But underneath, animal welfare volunteer Iara de Jesus Marreiros is seen on CCTV footage standing with her arms outstretched up towards the terrified pup.
Moments later the lead slips free and the dog plummets to the ground.
But it is saved when 31-year-old Iara snatches it out of the air and braces herself for the impact just as it is about to hit the ground.
Iara later said: ""I rescued it and looked after it until I made sure it was okay.
""I gave it food, water, and then returned it to its owner.""
Fellow volunteers praised her act in an Instagram post saying: ""Attitudes like this represent the true purpose of our project.
""To transform lives with empathy, unity and love for others - whether they’re human or have four paws.
""Congratulations to our heroine!""
