A two-year-old child caused a six-vehicle collision after opening a car door while the vehicle was stuck in slow-moving traffic, leaving two motorcyclists injured.
The incident happened along Jalan Tun Razak in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at around 6:15pm on Friday, 6th February.
Police said the toddler was seated in the rear of a Honda City and being held by a relative when the child suddenly opened the left rear door into live traffic.
Investigators believe the car’s child safety lock had not been activated, allowing the door to be opened from inside.
A 25-year-old motorcyclist travelling between lanes was unable to avoid the open door and crashed into it before losing control and colliding with several other vehicles.
A second rider, aged 30, who was travelling behind him, also lost control and crashed.
The collision involved two motorcycles and four cars, including a Honda City, Toyota Corolla Cross, Volkswagen Polo and Perodua Bezza.
None of the car occupants were injured.
The younger motorcyclist suffered a fractured left arm and was taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment, while the second rider sustained minor injuries.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa confirmed the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.
The incident went viral after dashcam footage circulated online.
In a Facebook post, a user identified as Ijul Pakngah said the injured rider was his younger brother and urged parents to always activate child safety locks when travelling with children.
Police said they are reviewing video footage as part of the ongoing investigation.
