This is the moment a portable gas stove explodes during a birthday celebration at a restaurant, injuring 11 female students as flames erupt across the table.

The incident took place in Barangay Caranglaan, Dagupan City, Pangasinan province, Philippines, on 12th March.

Video shows the group gathered around a table singing “Happy Birthday” to another girl before the butane stove suddenly explodes, sending a burst of fire towards those seated nearby and triggering panic as diners scramble away.

Authorities said the students had gathered at the restaurant following a school activity to celebrate a classmate’s birthday when the blast occurred.

Police said the explosion was likely caused by a gas leak from the portable stove, which ignited while the group was mid-celebration.

All 11 students suffered burn injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Eight were admitted for further care, while three were discharged after receiving initial medical attention.

Of those hospitalised, two sustained serious injuries and were scheduled to undergo surgery, although their condition was not described as critical.

Restaurant staff said the incident happened suddenly, causing customers to flee the premises in fear.

Management said it was the first such incident at the establishment and that cooking equipment is regularly cleaned and checked.

Police said the restaurant owner has agreed to cover the medical expenses of the injured students. It is unclear if the birthday girl was one of those injured.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the explosion and have reminded the public to exercise caution when using portable gas-powered cooking equipment, particularly in enclosed spaces.
