Chimpanzees have been filmed sharing ‘boozy’ fruit for the first time by a group of researchers.
A team led by the University of Exeter filmed the chimps enjoying fermented breadfruit, which have been confirmed to contain ethanol, in Cantanhez National Park, Guinea-Bissau.
According to Anna Bowland, from the Centre for Ecology and Conservation at the university, the footage raises questions about whether chimpanzees use alcohol to form social bonds, similar to humans.
