An Indian man who attempted to transform his car into a helicopter using scrap material from his yard had his dream 'wedding chariot' project seized by police for breaking road laws.
Ishwar Deen had spent months building the 'car-copter' outside his home in Ambedkar Nagar in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India.
With the help of his brother Parmeshwar, Ishwar used an old Maruti Suzuki Wagon R car to turn it into a 'heli car' with the tail rotor of the helicopter attached to the trunk of his customised vehicle.
He said he had invested 2.5 lakh (2,353 GBP) and dedicated hours to transforming the vehicle, drawing crowds to his home to witness the homemade car-copter.
The brothers planned to rent out the quirky vehicle during the summer wedding season.
However, on March 20 while en route to a workshop to have the car-copter painted, Ishwar was stopped by a traffic officer and fined 2,000 Rupees (18.84 GBP) for the alterations. Authorities ordered him to dismantle the rotor attached to the roof of the vehicle.
Ishwar said: 'The police issued a fine and instructed me to remove the back portion of the car.
'I have invested a significant amount of money and time into this vehicle. The police instructed me to remove the back portion of the car.'
Furthermore, in addition to issuing a fine, the police also impounded his car-copter vehicle, which was later released upon payment of the penalty.
Ishwar said that the vehicle was strictly intended for use during the wedding season and not for regular use on public roads.
He also mentioned that similar vehicles were being utilised in other regions such as Pratapgarh and Bihar.
The primary reason cited by the police for impounding the car was safety concerns, as the modifications had been made without the necessary approvals under the Motor Vehicles Act.
Assistant Superintendent of PoliceVishal Pandey, said: 'A modified vehicle was confiscated by authorities. In accordance with the Model Code of Conduct, law enforcement has been carrying out routine vehicle inspections. This particular modified car was stopped by traffic police during one of these checks.
'It is important to note that any modifications made to a vehicle must be approved by the RTO department. As a result of non-compliance, the vehicle was impounded under Section 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act.'
Pandey stated that further investigations are currently underway.
