A pet dog from Oklahoma chewed a lithium-ion battery, causing it to explode and start a fire in the house.
CCTV shows the pooch chewing on the cell phone battery pack, which eventually exploded and burst into flames on the pet mattress.
Two other dogs remained at the scene as the fire and smoke filled the home. The dogs and a cat escaped unharmed through a dog door while the property suffered 'significant damage'.
The Tulsa Fire Department urged the public to learn and follow safe practices for using lithium-ion batteries to help prevent similar incidents.
They said: 'Fire departments all over the country are seeing fires related to these batteries, and we want the public to learn about the usage, safe storage and proper disposal of these potentially dangerous batteries.'
Andy Little, the fire department's public information officer, also shared how these batteries can cause potentially deadly situations.
He said: 'Lithium-ion batteries are known for storing a significant amount of energy in a compact space. However, when this energy is released uncontrollably, it can generate heat, produce flammable and toxic gasses, and even lead to explosions.
'Many individuals keep these batteries in their homes for convenience, unaware of the potential dangers they pose.'
