A smoker lit up a cigarette and then threw a match onto the floor - unwittingly igniting a trail of petrol.
Footage shows two locals talking by the roadside in Kalyandurgam, Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh, India, on August 21.
The man lit his miniature cigar, or beedi, with a matchstick and tossed it, mistakenly believing a trail of gasoline from a parked motorcycle was a puddle of water.
Flames quickly erupted, putting the area in grave danger.
The incident is said to have started when another individual accidentally spilt five litres of petrol while driving, causing a motorcycle to catch fire.
Residents swiftly extinguished the flames with water, preventing a major catastrophe.
