This is the shocking moment a roof overloaded with spectators collapsed during a procession in India.
Footage shows women dressed in festive attire dancing and celebrating during the Shobhayatra for Ganpati Visarjan in Barwa Village, Lakhandur Taluka, Bhandara, Maharashtra, on Wednesday, September 18.
The joyful activity turned chaotic when a portion of the building along the central market, where locals were standing and watching, suddenly crumbled, injuring nine women.
The structure, unable to support the weight, gave way, but a tin shed below helped prevent a larger tragedy. A resident noted that 35 to 40 people could have been in danger without the tin shed.
Among the injured, six women sustained minor injuries, while three others, including a teenage girl, were seriously hurt.
The injured were taken to a nearby health center for treatment, while the more serious cases were transferred to a hospital in Lakhandur. Medical authorities confirmed that those with minor injuries are out of danger.
Ganpati Visarjan is a vital ritual of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, where devotees bid farewell to Lord Ganesha after his temporary installation.
