This is the shocking moment balloons exploded on a birthday girl's face leaving her with severe burns in Vietnam.
Giang Pham, 33, was preparing to blow her birthday candles when the hydrogen-filled balloons she was holding drifted toward the flames at the restaurant in Hanoi on February 14.
Footage shows how the combustible gas erupted from the balloons, sending a large fireball toward Giang's face. The blast scorched the woman's face and she dropped her cake as terrified guests screamed.
With smoke still wafting from her head, Giang staggered toward the washroom to douse her face. Her birthday celebration ended with a trip to the hospital, where doctors said she suffered first and second-degree burns across her face. Her eyelids were also wounded, but her vision was not severely affected.
Giang said: 'The incident happened six days ago, but only today have I calmed down enough to review the explosion that caused my burns.
'Over the past few days, my friends have asked me about my condition and I have sent them the video, but I have not had the courage to watch it. The incident scared me so much. When I found out that I had burns on my face, I was very confused.
'I cried all day because I didn't know what my life and work would be like after being burned on my face like that.
'I suffered first and second degree burns and was treated as an outpatient. Doctors said that my burns would not leave scars after they healed completely. However, it will take months for my skin to recover its colour.'
Photos show Giang in tears after nurses wrapped the painful burns across her cheeks, forehead, and lips with gauze.
She claimed the organisers had forgotten to warn her that the hydrogen balloons were flammable.
Giang added: 'When the balloon exploded, the fire flared up, rising high and burning the entire array of balloons the restaurant had prepared. Luckily, these balloons contained normal air, otherwise it could have led to a serious fire.
'If I had known, I would never have put myself in such a dangerous situation. That is also the reason I posted this story, sharing my unfortunate accident.
'I hope that through my accident, people will understand and be more careful when using balloons, not letting themselves fall into dangerous situations or have unnecessary accidents.'
Hydrogen is highly flammable, forming explosive mixtures with air at concentrations between four and 75 per cent. Due to its low igntion energy, even small sparks can set off a powerful hydrogen explosion.
