This is the terrifying moment a pride of lions sparked panic as they prowled through a village in western India.
Footage shows a group of around 11 wild felines strolling freely through the streets in the coastal region of Amreli, Gujarat, sparking fear among locals.
One of the big cats even approached a shop where the filmer was present on October 13. No injuries were reported, and the pride later left the area.
Just days earlier, a pair of lionesses had been spotted roaming through another village in the district. In a dramatic moment, a herd of cattle suddenly charged at one of the predators, sending it fleeing in panic.
The second lioness was momentarily left behind and was later seen dashing after the bovines.
Residents reported that forest officials have increased patrols in the area to monitor lion activity and ensure public safety.
Lion attacks on homes in India have become an increasing concern, especially in areas where human settlements encroach upon wildlife habitats.
The population of Asiatic lions in the Gir forests of Gujarat has grown from 523 in 2015 to 674 in 2020, as revealed in a report released by the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change.
The Gujarat tourism website states that the lion population was less than 200 in the late 1960s. A total of 239 lions, including 126 cubs, died in Gujarat in the last two years, with 29 of these fatalities being due to unnatural causes, as reported by Forest Minister Mulubhai Bera in the state assembly earlier this year.
