This is the shocking moment a distracted boy fell into an uncovered sewer before being rescued in India.
Footage shows the youngster casually walking along a street in Ludhiana, Punjab, on Friday, October 24.
He appears to be looking elsewhere at a playground over his right shoulder as he strolls, unaware of the open pit ahead, before plunging into it.
Another boy riding a bicycle spotted the child trapped inside the sewer, crying desperately for help, and quickly alerted bystanders.
One local leaned over the open drain and grabbed the child, pulling him to safety, his clothes covered in sludge. He reportedly sustained minor injuries.
Residents said the utility hole had been left uncovered despite repeated complaints to civic authorities.
They claimed that several other manholes in the colony also remain open, posing a danger, especially as a senior secondary school and a children's park are located nearby.
Last month, a six-year-old schoolgirl also fell into an uncovered manhole before being rescued by her mother in Telangana.
The girl's parents later expressed outrage at the incident, blaming civic authorities for negligence in leaving the drain uncovered.
Earlier this year, a mother and her baby fell into an uncovered utility hole in Faridabad, Haryana. The woman plummeted into the open pit while engrossed in her phone and talking with someone as she walked.
They were rescued by quick-thinking bystanders, and local media reported that they did not sustain any injuries from the incident.
