CCTV footage shows the man in a black sweater cutting branches in a courtyard when the wooden step beneath him slipped away in Beijing, China.
He managed to grab onto a thick branch, hanging on with both hands to prevent himself from falling.
Meanwhile, an elderly man nearby stood still before continuing to hang a white shirt on a wire.
Moments later, the homeowner pulled himself to safety, regaining his footing by stepping back onto the ladder.
He did not sustain any injuries from the mishap.
