This is the shocking moment bystanders narrowly escaped as an out-of-control SUV careered into a hospital in India, with the driver claiming he became dizzy after donating blood to an ill relative.
CCTV footage shows pedestrians standing near parked motorcycles outside the medical centre in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Moments later, a fast-moving Bolero swerved into view, barely missing two locals before ploughing into the parking bay on November 29 at around 1:18 pm.
Authorities said at least 16 motorbikes were crushed in the impact.
Several individuals avoided being struck by inches, stepping aside moments before the SUV smashed through the row of two-wheelers and hit the hospital gate.
Onlookers watched in shock as staff rushed to assist. Hospital employees quickly subdued the driver and handed him over to the police.
The driver, identified as Yashwant Yadav from Manjhariya village, claimed he lost control after becoming suddenly dizzy.
He told officers he had just returned from donating blood for a relative admitted to the cancer hospital when 'everything went dark'. Police are investigating the case.
India has one of the highest rates of road accidents in the world, with thousands of fatalities and injuries reported each year.
The startling bad track record is blamed on unsafe road conditions, reckless driving, inadequate enforcement of traffic laws, and a lack of awareness about road safety.
