This is the heart-stopping moment a firefighter climbs through a smoke-filled balcony window seconds before a powerful gas–air explosion rips through a flat.
The blast occurred as firefighters tackled a blaze inside a five-storey residential building in the city of Oral, Kazakhstan.
Footage shows the rescuer standing close to the epicentre moments before the explosion on December 12.
Emergency services said the fire broke out inside a third-floor apartment after thick smoke was seen pouring from the balcony window.
Firefighters arriving at the scene found furniture and personal belongings burning with open flames inside the structure.
A sudden gas–air ignition blew out the window frame and balcony glazing while the firefighter was still on the balcony.
Fire officials said the blast complicated efforts to extinguish the fire.
They confirmed that no residents or emergency workers were injured. Locals had already been evacuated from the building before the explosion.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
