This is the shocking moment a wild bear chased two residents through the streets in India.
CCTV footage shows a pair of men walking along a lit lane in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, on December 31, just hours before New Year celebrations, with several stray cows nearby.
As they were about to turn onto the next street, a black bear appeared on Shyampur Haat Road, Gali No. 15, at 9:55 pm local time and attempted to attack them.
Startled, the men ran at full speed and narrowly escaped harm, reaching a safe spot just in time.
The bovines can be seen stopping seconds before the bear appeared, visibly sensing the wild animal.
Residents quickly alerted the forest department. Officials rushed to the scene but were unable to capture the bear despite repeated efforts.
Authorities urged locals to stay indoors at night and remain vigilant, while patrols in the area have been increased to track the bear.
India is home to four wild bear species. Major threats to the bears include habitat loss, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict. Conservation efforts are ongoing, but workers say more measures are needed for their protection.
