This is the shocking moment a gas cylinder suddenly exploded, injuring residents in a home in India.
A mechanic was reportedly fixing a gas stove in a family home when it blasted in the Dighe Chawl area of Santacruz East, Mumbai, leaving four people seriously injured.
CCTV footage shows an elderly man in a red shirt sitting outside the apartment doorway when the deafening explosion sent him flying to the ground on the evening of February 19.
Flames and debris erupted from the room, sparking panic in the densely packed chawl, with doors swinging wide open from the pressure wave.
The startled pensioner immediately stood up as he watched the blaze in the open-area kitchen.
The victims were identified as Javed Abdul Shaikh, 30, Avantika Ajay Gawade, 45, Sumati Ramesh Gawade, 65, and Yash Gawade, 15.
Several suffered severe burn injuries and were rushed to V N Desai Hospital, with some later shifted for advanced care at LTMG Sion Hospital.
Fire crews from the Mumbai Fire Brigade responded swiftly, bringing the blaze under control in about half an hour.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion, whether it was a gas leak, faulty repair work, or mishandling of equipment.
Residents said they remain shaken by the incident. Officials are urging all households to exercise extreme caution when handling LPG cylinders and related appliances.
