This is the dramatic moment kayakers were knocked into the water by a hot air balloon during an annual festival in Australia.
Footage shows the airborne balloon craft approaching the boaters on Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra early Saturday morning.
Eric Vu and William Lam were out on the lake enjoying the launch of balloons from the Patrick White Lawns, which skimmed low over the water as part of the Balloon Spectacular.
The duo had been taking photos when one of the inflatables dipped close to the water. Moments later, the balloon basket struck their kayak, tipping both men into the lake.
Both escaped without injury, wearing lifejackets that kept them safe.
The holidaymakers had tried to paddle out of the way, but misjudged the balloon's path, leading to the brief but dramatic encounter.
Pilot Thor Wrigglesworth later addressed the incident, saying: 'Whoops! Sorry mate! I couldn't exactly steer around you.'
Vu said: 'It's total fine, mate. It was fun by the way.'
The pilot confirmed the balloon quickly ascended after the contact and has since offered the pair a complimentary flight.
The 2026 Canberra Balloon Spectacular takes place from March 14 to 22, with daily dawn launches from Patrick White Lawns. One of Australia's premier hot air balloon events, it features dozens of balloons, including special shapes such as Finley the Turtle, drifting over Lake Burley Griffin. The festival is free to attend, though daily weather conditions heavily influence activities.
